Registration Process in Relief Printmaking

This 22-page document details the registration process in relief printmaking. The project and presentation involved my understanding and illustrating the process of trimming paper and lining up a matrix with the trimmed paper to ultimately produce an impression and run an edition.

I also was to include a scientific diagram of a plant cell that explains the cause of the deterioration of newsprint paper via lignin.

The professor/client described his “needs” as follows:

  • Provide a coherent and detailed document describing the relief printmaking process as defined by the client
  • Include scientific facts about the nature of newsprint and it’s tendency to deteriorate when exposed to light as well as a brief overview of various lignin removal processes
  • Implement a visual and conceptual description of the available tools in the client’s workshop and their usage

I spoke with the professor and we collaborated on understanding the steps in the registration process of relief printmaking.
